Misdemeanors
Misdemeanor offenses are crimes for which the punishment will not exceed up to one year in jail and are generally handled in County Court. Only first degree misdemeanors carry punishment of that nature but most, depending on circumstances, criminal history and potential injuries to others result in fines, court costs and probation. Felonies
Felony offenses are those of a more serious nature and are punishable by more than one year in custody, i.e. a prison sentence is always possible for a felony charge. A felony conviction alone, without a prison sentence can have severe repercussions for your future. Felonies may effect your eligibility for certain types of licensures, positions and admission to government facilities for work as a contractor or employee of a contractor.
